Weaving a new Web

With the Internet constantly evolving, we thought it was about that time to again re-assess the whole look and feel of our own site.

The fact that we are web designers, and general IT specialists needed to be reflected in the new look Spiderweb site, with it being apparent as to what services we offer, as well as clearly showing our existing work for our client base.

Navigation

First and foremost on the list to be assessed was the navigation of the site. Navigation is always talked about in websites, and for good reason. After all, its what makes you stick around and delve deeper into the site.

We decided to keep the format of the navigation bar at the top of the page, but with the key services listed, in a Flash animation.

We wanted impact when the site loaded, and so decided to have the top of the site animated. With a constant but subtle animation, we feel it adds to the site to make it feel more organic.

Our portfolio is easily accessible from the front page, so that users can access examples of our work quicker and easier.

The use of “related links” is a section that will be updated as needed, as and when new relevant information comes to the forefront.

Graphics and Animation

Of course, we didn’t just want to change the layout of the site, without keeping the whole look up to date, so we had a good look at the graphics and colours used, in order to give the site that fresher look and feel.

The logo for Spiderweb Systems has been freshened up, and the use of white to go with the animated heading.

The navigation bar at the top is kept down to five options for our key areas. These are Flash animated buttons.

The main change of course on site, is the animated heading. We felt it was time to increase the impact of our site by using an animated heading. This animation is designed to be high impact, but not to overwhelming. We didn’t want to compromise our content with over extravagant Flash animation.

As with any website, we will always be striving to improve as time goes on, and this is just the start in 2005. We hope the improvements are of great use to you as the user.
