Overview

We have helped many companies with GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, which became law on the 25th of may 2018. Yet 9 months after this ,only 29% of EU based businesses are compliant to this.

Being non-compliant can cause implications, this unfortunately includes the risk of fines-which could put a dent in your bank account! So becoming GDPR compliant means you can rest easy knowing there are no pesky fines or problems coming your way.

What is the point of it?

GDPR attempts to standardise data protection laws in the EU and tries to update them to apply to our current technology too. As well as that, it aims to:

-Protect your privacy

-give you more control over your personal data

-Prevent unlawful gathering of personal data by businesses

-punishment of businesses that misuse personal data.

What does this mean for your business?

Whether you own a small or large business, you have a whole new set of legalities to deal with. Individuals can now ask businesses to confirm what personal data they have, provide copies, and request to stop sharing the data (the right to be forgotten).

You also are required to collect the least amount of data necessary, such as not collecting gender or age if it is not necessary. You will also need someones consent to add them to something such as a mail list- unless you are on lawful grounds to do so without asking.

How do i become compliant?

To become compliant, you need to know:

-where from, why, and what are you doing with the data

-if you have consent, freely given and written down as a record.

-if your business can protect this personal data from hackers, ( so if it is safe in your hands).

-if there has been a breach in privacy , which you must report to regulators within 72 hours.

GDPR  can be time consuming and expensive, but even more so if you do not comply. The first ever case fined someone 22,000 dollars for failure to keep user’s data safe, which is why you should give us a call or email and we can help you become GDPR compliant.
